Resonant power converters, especially those with an LLC- configuration, are receiving renewed interest in automotive and aerospace industries because of the potential of these converters to achieve both higher switching frequencies and lower switching losses. Design of a LLC converter is a challenging task, and requires more effort for optimization compared to traditional PWM converters. This e-training aims to give the participants the tools to be able to optimally design the converter.
This training is especially designed for individuals and professionals who wants to get into the converter design aspects as well as for people who wants to build their own hardware.
This training covers the basics of each topic but it can be considered as mid-level to high-level course focused in the following specific objectives:
The e-training is recommended for anyone who is interested in learning theoretical and hardware design aspects of a LLC based resonant converter. Only basic knowledge in power electronics will be enough to take part in the training.
The training is ideal for:
The explanations are focused on the concepts and physical meaning. Mathematical developments are also included as reference materials in annexes.
Controller design using SmartCtrl + PSIM simulation to test the results.
A large number of examples are used to show training explanations.
Exercises are proposed to be developed by the audience during the training.
SmartCtrl files and PSIM files are provided in advance to develop efficiently the examples and exercises.

Sumantra Bhattacharya studied Engineering Cybernetics and received his B.Sc degee from Jadavpur University and M.Sc. degree in 2017 from the RWTH Aachen University. He has worked with companies like Caterpillar, Astec Industries, Mitsubishi Electric Japan etc. Since 2018, he is working in Institute for Energy Conversion and Storage (EWS) for development of power electronic converters for fuel cell driven aircraft in association with German aerospace (DLR). He is also a doctoral candidate at the Institute for Energy Conversion and Storage (EWS) at University of Ulm. His research focus lies in the modelling, control and design of high power density novel power converter for full electric aircraft.
